January 31st. I got mild chillblains. I had vegetable soup, apples, tomatoes, granola yogurt, and cafe au lait for my breakfast. I also had the chocolate chip and nut twist bread I made in the bread-making class.
I made vegetable soup with a mochi and topped it with chopped seaweed for my lunch.
I got mild chillblains on the toes of my left foot. I think it's because I went out taking photos before dawn for a few days. I thought I was well protected from the cold, but it seems my toes weren't. I spent the whole day holding disposable heating pads to my feet.
Miya-O walks outside on the balcony without wearing socks. I wonder if she dos’nt get chillblains.
I walked about 3 kilometers in Yasaka Park and took a few photos of the camellia sasanqua flowers.

January 30th. A braised pork spare ribs. Yesterday, I bought about 1 kg of pork spare ribs on sale at Torisen. Today, I used them to make braised pork spare ribs. First, I boiled them in a pressure cooker for 20 minutes. After removing the bones, I stewed them with shiitake mushrooms, carrots, and lotus root.
I had vegetable soup, burdock salad, granola yogurt, and Anko mochi for my lunch.

January 29th. The Nyoirin Kannon. I woke up before dawn. There were thin clouds in the eastern sky. I knew it would be a beautiful sunrise, so I went out to take some photos of the RENGO paper mill.
I had fried egg, apple, burdock salad, granola yogurt, sauce yakisoba , and cafe au lait for my breakfast.
I had soba my favorite Tsukuba soba restaurant Kimura for my lunch.
Afterwards, I went to photograph the stone Kannon statues at the foot of Mt. Hokyo. The last time I visited, my wife was with me so I didn't have enough time to photograph. Today I was able to capture an image that I thought about in my mind.
There are seven statues here. The three in the foreground are Nyoirin Kannon, and they are in a contemplative pose. They are in a thinking pose with their right knee raised and their right hand resting on their cheek to support their head. They are listening to people's problems and thinking of the best solution.
I wanted to express the depth of their thoughts through the many bubble bokes of sunlight filtering through the trees.
I bought vegetables and groceries at Costco and Torisen.
I had the thick sushi roll I bought at Torisen for my evening meal.

January 28th. The bread-making class. I participated in the bread-making class at Sarushima Community Center. Today's assignment was to make twisted bread with nuts and chocolate chips. The result was unsightly but delicious.
The flour I used to make bread in my automatic bread maker was Nissin Flour Milling's bread flour (apparently made in Canada). My bread-making class teacher recommended the domestically produced "Yumekaori." It is tastier, but a little more expensive.
"Yumekaori" is better for making that lets you enjoy the flavor of the flour. If you want to make arranged breads, like chocolate rolls, I think the cheaper Canadian flour would be better.
In the evening, I went to the RENGO photo spot and took some pictures of the sunset.

January 27th. The quality of MomofuQ croissants. I woke up before dawn and saw a beautiful sunrise. I set out to take photos of the paper mill RENGO.
I made curry rice and vegetable soup for my breakfast.
I baked round bread and sausage bread. The round bread turned out well, both in shape and flavor. However, I put too much water in the dough for the sausage bread, so it didn't bake well. However, the flavor wasn't bad.
I went to Tsukuba City to photograph the evening view of Mount Tsukuba. I wanted to capture the image of the city lights and the silhouette of Mount Tsukuba overlapping. Mount Tsukuba becomes relatively dark as the sun sets. The city lights become relatively bright as the sun sets. So, there is only a moment when the amount of light on both sides is almost equal. I have to take the photo during that time. Today it didn't go so well.

January 26th. The washing machine displayed an error. I made a gyoza, chikuwa, and vegetable soup for my breakfast. I made something warm in the morning. I always make a lot over amount in once. So I have to have the same at my lunch.
It was too cold outside. The heat pump of the air conditioning was not working so well. I also used a kerosene fan heater stove. MiyaO has always been here.
I made a hot sandwich with ham and cheese for my lunch.
I cleaned the first floor, today. I tried to turn on the washing machine I used for work at my clinic for the first time in a while, but it displayed an error message and stopped. It seems to be a problem with the water supply system. When I opened the water supply connector, I found that it was covered in hardened mud. This was why it displays an error message. I cleaned here and restored.
I made a Charumera filled with lots of vegetables.
My smartphone battery has expanded. Flammable gas is being generated and accumulating inside. It's dangerous.I

January 25th. Oh no! I woke up late. I have a slight headache. Oh no! I think I have caught a cold.
When I thought Miya-O was gone, I found her hiding behind the cutting board in my kitchen.
I made instant ramen for my breakfast.
My TV won't connect to the internet. Neither will my PC or phone. What's going on? Has my wireless router, which I've been using for over 8 years, finally died?
Oh no! I had the cables pointed in the wrong port at a cleaning. Becase they're the same color. I added some marking ribbon.

January 24th. My water heater pipe has burst. I woke up before dawn and saw a beautiful sunrise, but I didn't go out to take photos. It was a little too late.
I made instant ramen with lots of vegetables for my breakfast.
A neighbor came and told me that my water heater pipe has burst. It must have frozen and burst due to the cold. Water must have been leaking for more than three hours from around 9:00 am. First, I stopped the water flow at the water flow meter.
Upon closer inspection of the area, it was found to be a detachment, not a rupture.
The pipe joints are threaded and connected with joint parts. The screws in this area were not deep enough and there was adhesive. It seems the pressure caused the adhesive to come off. This is not the work of a professional. I don't understand why this was done. It was probably done by a part-time worker during an office renovation 15 years ago, who did the work haphazardly. Well, even an amateur wouldn't do something like this. It's surprising that it lasted for 15 years.

What would happen if I photographed oranges with the morning glow as a background?
So I photographed two botols of summer orange marmalade and a navel oranges. But Miya-O got in the way.
In the morning, I went to Chikusei City to attend the monthly meeting of the Photo Kano Club. Mount Tsukuba looked different. I took photos of Mount Tsukuba from the same spot to compare the three lenses.

January 22nd. The paper mill RENGO. Before dawn, I set out to take photos of the paper mill RENGO in Kamiizushima.
Today, I arrived at the location well before dawn, so I was able to try out a variety of things. Image composition, degree of Boke, and more. I thought the "Paper Mill" was a good subject because of its symbolic chimneys, smoke, and rising steam. Today, I was able to get an image that perfectly matched my expectations.
However, I must prepare for the cold. After 10 minutes of work, my fingers become stiff. My toes start to hurt. I thought I've taken measures to protect myself from the cold, but it wasn't enough.
I made instant ramen with lots of vegetables for my breakfast．It was warming.
My mother-in-law bought the Lagostina pressure cooker about 70 years ago, and it's now in my possession. The pressure valve is made of metal, so it's unlikely to break. However, the steam leaks out loudly, and the design makes it difficult to use. Now that the Fissler pressure cooker is fixed compleatly, I'll be using it less and less.
A strong wind was blowing outside, and it was very dry.
I had been a member of the Ibaraki Prefecture Southwestern Dental Association for 40 years, so I became a lifetime member. Dr. Nidaira informed me and gave me a congratulatory gift.

I made cheese, peppers, cabbage, and carrot toast for my breakfast. Before eating, I took some photos, using more elaborate lighting than usual. I also had a melting vegetable soup, some apple, and cafe au lait for my evening meal.
I went to Tsukuba city and had tenseiro at my favorite soba restaurant Kimura. After that, I took photos of Camellia sasanqua flowers at Doho Park. I waited for the sun to go down and took photos of the evening view of Mt. Tsukuba and Tsukuba city. Today's photos were taken with Ernemann Detektiv Aplanat 1:6.8 f=13.5cm No.435699.

January 20th. I accidentally ordered the same two parts. Before dawn, I set out to take photos of the roadside Kannon stone statue in Nagaya. The light at sunrise comes from the horizontal direction, making it ideal for photography. However, the light lasts for less than 10 minutes, so I need to be well prepared. That's why I set out before dawn.
Today, I went to Yoshiwara Internal Medicine Clinic for a regular health checkup. There were no blood tests or chest X-rays today. Again, no abnormal findings were found, so the checkup was completed quickly.
I accidentally ordered the same two pressure cooker parts. The pressure valve set included a silicone gasket, but I didn't realize this and ordered the same gasket separately I returned the unwanted part. But I had to pay a handling fee of 500 yen, and the hassle of going to the Kuroneko Yamato office in Kamiomi. I should have checked carefully before ordering.

As I clean up various parts of my house, I list any unneeded items I find on Yahoo! Auctions. Listing an item requires the time and effort of taking photos and writing a description. No cost until it sells, and if it sells they take a 6% commission on the sale price. That's why I list any unwanted items before throwing them away. Sometimes it sell three months later.
I believe this will help build a sustainable society.

January 18th. I replaced the part. I had tofu and vegetable soup, granola yogurt, and cafe au lait for my breakfast. The pressure valve for the Fissler pressure cooker that I ordered from Amazon has arrived. I took this opportunity to replace all the silicone rubber parts. The cost was 7,428 yen.There is absolutely no sound of steam leaking. The pressure rises quickly. I should have replaced the part sooner.
I was a little surprised that replacement parts were still available after 30 years. Old and new Fissler pressure valve is common to all models. So it seems like they haven't needed to be improved in 30 years.
I bought a croissant at MomofuQ. I took a photo before eating it. I tried a different shooting position and lighting than usual. I think it turned out well.Of course the croissants were good too.

January 17th. COMPAL. The pressure valve on the Fissler pressure cooker my wife bought about 35 years ago has broken. It had been leaking steam a little and making a loud noise for a few years, but it finally broke. It no longer builds pressure and has become just another pot.
Yesterday, I parboiled the pork spare ribs in a pressure cooker for 50 minutes.The pressure cooker used for this was not a Fissler but an Italian brand called Logostina. It was purchased by my mother-in-law about 70 years ago and has been passed down to me.
Today I stewed the pork with onions and dried shiitake mushrooms in soy sauce. I had a bowl of rice topped with this stewed pork, chopped green vegetables, and an egg, and heated it in the microwave for my lunch.
I baked graham bread in my automatic electric bread maker. I mixed in 20% graham flour. I used milk instead of water. I helped put the ingredients in its and mixed them. It's not a full automatic because I helped a little. I changed the flour from domestic to Canadian(previously used brand), and it started rising just as well as before.
Today I was putting some unwanted items up for sale on Yahoo! Auctions, for example a bottom case for the EOS M3. The M3 has already been sold.
I walked over to the bar COMPAL in Bando City at 7 pm. It was already there when I was in junior high school, and I've been there a few times. Today, there was an open mic event, and my friend Tokunou was performing. Five other guys also performed for 20 minutes at a time. Everyone was good at playing and singing, so it wasn't boring. I retuernd my home at 10 pm.

I went to Torisen and bought some thick sushi rolls for my lunch. I also bought some navel oranges. Then I went to MomofuQ and bought croissants one for me and three for my brother-in-law's wife

My brother-in-law and I went to Moriya Daiichi hospital which my father-in-law is in the hospital. He has been hospitalized for three weeks. His wounds have healed, but he is unable to walk on his own. I wanted to give him navel orange juice, so I brought along some juice-making equipment. However, his nurse said that it would be dangerous because he has problems swallowing. So, I decided not to do it this time.
My brother-in-law's wife loves delicious food. She is always on the lookout for delicious food. She knows a lot of well-established Japanese sweets shops, famous western sweets shops, chocolate sweets shops, and famous bread shops and more. They are unknown to me. My brother-in-law said that she sometimes buys croissants.
So, I wanted to ask her about the quality of MomofuQ croissants. So I gave her three MomofuQ croissants. Her rating is better feeling than Maison Kayser's croissants. I don’t know about the shop.

January 15th. "Grid Maintenance Quartet." I made vegetable soup adding a mochi, and cafe au lait for my breakfast.
I went to Tsukuba city in the afternoon. I had Ten Seiro soba at my favorite soba restaurant Kimura. It's a staple when I go to Tsukuba. Then I went to Costco to fullgas my FJ, and bought 18 liters of kerosene, Greek yogurt, Shimeji, peaman. It's a staple when I go to Costco. Costco's food comes in large packages, so I divide them into single servings of about 150g, and package them in my freezer. Some time I cook before packaging.
I bought some discounted items that were close to their expiration date, as well as some food items like milk.
I made spaghetti with clams and bok choy for my evening meal. I took the photo as soon as the food was ready. I set up my photography equipment before I started cooking. I wanted to take photos of the steam rising from the food, but it's difficult to do both cooking and filming by myself.

January 14th. A paper mill and a Kannon stone statue. I woke up at 4:30am, earlier than yesterday. It was still dark outside. I went to a photo spot in front of a paper mill. I wanted to capture the factory continuing to operate at night, using the lights, chimneys, steam, and night sky as my subjects. I waited for the sun to rise and the sky to turn a slight orange. I changed my photo spot and took a photo of the crescent moon and the factory tilting orange with the eastern sky in the background. I was able to take the photo I had in mind. Yes!
I moved to in front of the Kannon stone statue in Nagaya. I set up my 500mm telephoto lens and waited for the sunrise. The orange sunlight hit the Kannon stone statue from the side. I got up early for this moment. At around 7:30am, elementary and junior high school students pass by here on their way to school. I was able to get another great photo.
I went to my home and I had my breakfast.
Miya-O chan took a nap all in the morning.

January 13th. the Kannon statue in Nagaya. I woke up at 5:30 AM. The sky in the east was a little brighter. I went to a photo spot in front of the Rengo Paper mill. I wanted to capture the factory lights shining at dawn. The sky was a little too bright. The relative intensity of the sky's brightness and the factory's lights is important. I missed the moment when the sky appeared orange in the photo. I have to go earlier if I want to get it.
I moved to the Kannon statue in Nagaya. I prepared my 300mm telephoto lens and waited for sunrise. The orange sunlight was shining sideways on the statue. However, clouds on the horizon blocked out the light. There's not enough light. I photographed elementary and junior high school students passing by here on their way to school.
I returned home and made vegetable soup with a sausage and a mochi for my breakfast. Miyao-chan took a nap all in the morning.

January 12th. the Rengo paper mill I woke up at 5:30 am. The eastern horizon was starting to brighten a little. It might be a good idea to photograph the Rengo paper mill with the dawn sky as a backgraund, so I went.
As I walked around looking for a good spot to take photos, it got light quickly and I missed the colors of dawn.
I headed to the Kannon stone statue in Nagaya and waited for the sunrise. It was around 6:40 am. Today I used an ASAHI OPT. CO., SMC PENTAX 1:1.4/50 lens for the photo. The orange sun shining on the Kannon statue from the side is beautiful.
I waited here for elementary and junior high school students on their way to school to pass by around 7:30 am. They took a long time to come. What the hell, today was Coming of Age Day, a national holiday. I went back home.

January 11th. the Bando City Photo Contest.. Since last year, I've been taking photos with the aim of winning the Bando City Photo Contest. This is because I learned that if I won, I would receive a cash prize. The entry requirement was that the photos had to be taken in Bando City within this year.
So I set out early in the morning to take photos.
I photographed a paper mill, aleek fields, and a tractor plowing the fields in the morning.
I made and had vegetable soup for breakfast. Then, as usual, I gave Miya-O her medicine.
I went to Kamioumi Community Center. I brought two my works to exhibit at the photo exhibition. There I met the people from Photo Club Bando. I'm considering joining.

Yesterday, I returned three chairs that my wife's best friend had asked me to repair. The repairs were perfect. The materials cost about 600 yen. She gave me two bottles of wine and some sweets as a thank you gift. I think the total amount came to several thousand yen. I was very happy, but I also felt bad because it was too much.

I bought a sheet of plywood measuring 1800 x 90 x 4 mm at Homac. I used it to repair my wife's best friend's chair. I spent the afternoon repairing the chair. I cut three 450 x 330 x 4 mm boards out of the plywood and drilled four 10 mm diameter holes in each. I then glued them to the underside of the seat with wood glue. Sewing is one of my wife's hobbies. She made her a coat and pants. She seems to enjoy every step of the process, from choosing the fabric to the buttons. She also owns two sewing machines. One of them is apparently a professional model for special purposes. It looks fun. I can relate to the joy of making things.
My wife and I went to bakery Backenbart in Moriya and bought four kinds of bread. After that, we bought Starbucks coffee at the Moriya Service Area on the Joban Expressway (inbound). My wife and I went to the hospital where my father-in-law was hospitalized at 3pm. We met with him for about 30 minutes. He was well aware of the situation and seemed in better spirits than I expected.

January 4th. Two broken chairs. In the afternoon, I took my wife to her best friend's house in Moriya City. We chatted for a while over coffee and sweets.
Her husband used to work for Canon in the US for several years, and she was with him. Her favorite chair, which she bought in the US at the time, broke. She had four chairs in total, but one had already broken and her husband had thrown it away. Now, two of the remaining three have broken. She doesn't want to throw them away. The broken part was the seat panel. I thought it could be repaired by adding a reinforcement plate and gluing it back together. So I offered to repair the chair.
Afterwards, I went to the Wonder Rex Moriya store to check out the market prices for used cameras and junk camera lenses. I couldn't find any attractive junk items.
My wife chatted with her friends until around 5pm. I picked her up and I also loaded two broken chairs belonging to my wife's friend into the FJ.
My wife's friend gave us some instant ramen that her favorite. I made this instant ramen with lots of vegetables for our evening meal. The soup was thick and the texture of the noodles was different from Charumera. It was very delicious.

January 3rd. It snowed last night.It snowed last night. A little snow accumulated, and the surroundings were covered in white. I made vegetable omelette for our breakfast.
My wife went running and my son went to my brother-in-law's clinic to get a cavity treated.
I took my telephoto lens and went to take pictures of the snowy scenery.
My wife made roast pork for our evening meal.

January 2nd. A New Year party. My wife made shiruko for our breakfast. And she made a cake, poteto salad for a new year's party.
My brother-in-law held a New Year party. He and his wife prepared several New Year's dishes and nigiri sushi sets. Their eldest daughter attended with her husband and one-year-old son. Their eldest son attended with his wife and three-month-old baby. His cousin and her son also attended. Of course, my wife, my son, and I also attended. I brought braised pork belly, and my wife brought a strawberry decorated cake.
A total of 13 people enjoyed the half day. The only thing that was disappointing was that my father-in-law was hospitalized and couldn't join us. He fell and injured himself end of last year. It wasn't a serious injury, but because he's elderly, he decided to take precautions and go to the hospital to get a thorough checkup.

January 1st. Happy New Year. The New Year's dishes and ozoni prepared by my wife were lined up. The usual New Year's Day breakfast was ready on the table.
I've retired from work and my son have been adults for a long time, so I don't have things mast to do, my time doesn't flow clearly for me. That's why the line between Omisoka and New Year's is blurred.
Anyway, I hope to have another peaceful year.

This New Year's dishes were photographed with a Petri Camera EE Auto C.C. Petri 1:1.7/55 274122. This lens is with six elements in four groups, manufactured between 1974 and 1977. I acquired it on Yahoo! Auctions in 2019 for 730 yen. There were some dirt and signs of use, very little mold, small scratches around the glass of the front and rear lenses. However they were worth the purchase price. I'm using them with pleasure.
I've been simmering pork over the heat of the kerosene stove all day for tomorrow's New Year's party.
We all had unadon for our evening meal. It was a gift from my wife's nephew, and it was a stock of pre-cooked frozen meals in my rifuge.
